I enjoyed the Expendables 2 as well - Jean-Claude van Damme is a fantastic villain, cheesy as hell - but it could have benefitted by getting rid of some of the excess characters (not Chuck Norris though. Or even Arnie, as corny as Arnie was playing. Just the chick and the New Guy. Maybe Charisma Carpenter.)

I'm gonna go see it with Dad tonight or tomorrow. I'm looking forward to it.
He jumps like a damned dragoon, and charges into battle fighting rather insane monsters with little more than his bare hands and rather nasty spell effects conjured up solely through knowledge and the local plantlife. He unerringly knows where his goal lies, he breathes underwater and is untroubled by space travel, seems to have no limits to his actual endurance and favors killing his enemies by driving both boots square into their skull. His agility is unmatched, and his strength legendary, able to fling about a turtle shell big enough to contain a man with enough force to barrel down a near endless path of unfortunates.

Yeah, Maggie was kind of a pointless inclusion. I guess Jet Li was too busy to be in the whole movie.

I think if Jet Li and Chuck Norris showed up on the same screen, something would explode and one of them would die. Some sort of conservation of awesome.

Personally I could never get into the whole Chuck Norris meme. Probably because my memories of him consist of a shitty Colecovision game and being a punching bag for Bruce Lee.

In short, your entire post is dismissive of not merely my intelligence, but my agency. And I don't mean agency as a player within one of your games, I mean my agency as a person. You do not want me to be informed when I make the fundamental decisions of deciding whether to join your game or buying your rules system.

I recommend watching Lone Wolf McQuaid and The Octagon.

Introducing my 5-year old and her mother to the joys of FF IV. Of course, it's easier to lure them in when you show them the DS version rather than the old snes version.

The wife didn't believe that they had overhauled it that drastically. I had to show her my snes rom. She was awestruck. If only I knew it was this easy when we were dating...

I referenced Chuck Norris jokes in a midterm essay about the Enuma Elish. Unfortunately the teacher had no clue what I was talking about.

Prak: There's your problem. It was a midterm essay. In a term paper or any sort of assigned essay, you would have to provide sources and this could give your teacher clues.

He was just woefully out of the loop when it came to pop culture. I think k did explain better when I retook the class.

Radioactive Man: Radioactive Repository Volume One is rocking my fucking socks off.

Long time viewers of The Simpsons might remember that Radioactive Man is Bart Simpson's favorite comic book character; less well known is that Bongo Comics (publishers of The Simpsons comic books, and Sergio Argones' Funnies which is AMAZING) issued a brief series of Radioactive Man comic books back in the day, which were all fucking fantastic pastiches of comic books from different periods, from the Golden Age Superman to Neal Adams' Green Lantern/Green Arrow storyline in the 70s. The writing was brilliant and the artwork an excellent compromise between the Simpsons style and various comic art trends of different decades. Sadly the series didn't last, but Radioactive Man (and his expanded universe, including Fallout Boy, Radioactive Ape, Glowy the radioactive dog, etc.) are still featured in back-ups to various Bongo comics, so his adventures continue.

Anyway, this thick hardcover is gorgeous. You take off the dustcover and it's black leatherette with a red foil atom symbol on one side and a red foil radiation trefoil on the reverse. The introduction is "in character" by the creator of Radioactive Man in the Simpsons, including mock-ups of vintage Radioactive Man toys and spin-offs, including getting PAUL DINI to do sketches of what a Batman Adventures-esque Radioactive Man cartoon would have looked like - and let me say, I would have watched the fuck out of that cartoon.

The collection collects the stories in the chronological order they would have appeared in the Simpsons continuity - which, if it sounds confusing, don't worry about it. Imagine if you had this aunt that got you an unsorted lot of Superman comics from different decades, and then you just sorted them by issue number and read them. Right? Well done. That's how this is. This makes some of the art shifts a little jarring, but I have to say I am fucking thrilled with this.

I'm not sure if Stallone was aiming for action comedy, but he succeeded.

I watched the first one, not taking it seriously at all, but expecting to be entertained. I was not let down. This is what I expect from the second, as well.

So today on Dark Souls, I finally beat Seath. I got the Moonlight Greatsword. I opened the way to the final area. I went up to the fog gate. I killed Black Knights without any particular trouble.

And I realized just how far my character has come in this game. At first, I'd have only tried a Black Knight if I could have gotten the drop on him, for starters. And I can kill the enemies at the beginning through their shields with a single strong hit.

It's a weird feeling, to tangibly appreciate just how much you progress through this game. So now I'm at the end game. I'm going to wrap up a few bits of business, explore some nooks and crannies, and then go have it out with the boss.

I'm trying out the games in a new indie bundle, and Analogue: A Hate Story is pretty cool.

It put me in a situation where I had 5 minutes to decide which of 2 sentients to murder in order to save myself and the other sentient. It didn't feel like the decision was forced, and I was given just enough information to make a decent decision while still wishing I had pursued some other leads and learned more.

And the decision wasn't hammed up, either. Someone rushing through that part of the game might not realize they extinguished another consciousness until they started exploring some more options later on.

Ess and I have become hopelessly addicted to Phineas and Ferb. My brother asked us about the show after he found a plush Perry that he thought was cool, so we figured we'd Netflix it. We now can't stop watching - it might be a kids' Disney show, but like Animaniacs, it's also made for adults.
My son makes me laugh. Maybe he'll make you laugh, too.

Peculiar properties of spacetime ensure that the perception of the magnitude of Soon is fluid and dependent, not on an individual's time-reference, but on spatial and cultural location. A marketer generally perceives Soon as a finite, known, yet unspeakable time-interval; to a fan, the interval appears greater, and may in fact approach the infinite, becoming Never. Once the interval has passed, however, a certain time-lensing effect seems to occur, and the time-interval becomes vanishingly small. We therefore see the strange result that the same fragment of spacetime may be observed, in quick succession, as Soon, Never, and All Too Quickly.

Oh, poo. If I start with that attitude, then by the time my son is a teenager, I'll be just another out-of-touch parent. But like I said, the show was made - in part - for adults. There's a lot that the show's target audience just wouldn't get.
